Please help us get justice for Kylie!
Kylie, a severely abused female Cocker Spaniel who had known
no human kindness for the first 2 years of her life, was fostered
and then adopted by Mary Callahan of Lisbon, Maine.
Kylie’s troubled history was disclosed to Ms. Callahan in our foster
agreement. Ms. Callahan is the owner of multiple Cocker Spaniels
and assured us that she was up to the challenge of helping her.
Throughout the foster period, Ms. Callahan relayed via email that Kylie
was making good progress and sent us a series of photos of Kylie as a
happy member of the Callahan pack.
In June of 2011, we received an email from Ms. Callahan thanking
our rescue for bringing Kylie into her life and stating that she wished
to adopt her. It seemed that Kylie had found her dream home
and we were overjoyed.
In late 2011, Ms. Callahan began reporting behavioural problems with Kylie,
ultimately suggesting that euthanasia might be an appropriate course of
action. Abandoned Angels reiterated that we are a "no kill" organization
and emphasized to Ms. Callahan that she was contractually precluded
from euthanizing the dog, who had reportedly bitten her.
In accordance with our lifetime return policy (and our adoption contract),
Abandoned Angels offered to pick Kylie up from Ms. Callahan’s home in Maine
and to take her back into rescue. However, Ms. Callahan stated that
she wanted to give the situation a little more time and assured us
that the dog was safe in her care.
It has recently come to our attention that Ms. Callahan no longer has Kylie.
She has hired an attorney who refuses to disclose what became of our dog.
Abandoned Angels can only assume that Kylie has now met a terrible end.
We will be pursuing answers in court. Anyone having information about Kylie
